Loved for millennia by women of all ages, pearls appear in the most diverse jewels present in our history, whether in biographies or in works of art such as painting and cinema.
They hold an almost magical power over the feminine universe, as they evoke a glow on the skin, giving it a greater charm. 

Pearls are organic gems and are produced in different groups of molluscs in oceans, lakes and rivers around the world. 
They result from the reaction of the mollusc when occasionally a foreign body lodges inside it. It responds with layers of nacre that coat the foreign body, forming a Pearl. Cultured pearls form in oysters in the same way as natural pearls. The only difference is that in nature the nucleus is introduced in an occasional way and in cultured it is man who puts the nucleus inside the oyster. The process of forcing the oyster to produce is quite delicate and is carried out by highly experienced specialists.
There are different types of pearls, in a great variety of colours, differentiated according to their origin. South Sea Pearls are the largest cultured pearls in the world. They range in size from 9 to 20 mm and are found between the northern coast of Australia and the southern coast of China.

Pearls have long been associated with purity, humility and innocence. It can be assumed that, the meaning of the June birthstone is 'sweet simplicity'.
The story of Cleopatra is the most enduring story concerning Pearls. Legend has it, that Cleopatra dissolved them in the wine she drank in the presence of the Roman commander Mark Antonys, in order to seduce him. 
Pearls are probably one of the first gems that man used for ornamentation.
